Starting the year with an in-person yoga class changed everything. Read my honest experience with yoga for self-care, mindfulness, and mental wellness-and why I’m going back.

1. Why did I decide to start my year with a yoga class?
I wanted to start the year the right way with intention, peace, and of course that good SELF-CARE. I usually practice yoga at home, in my own space, where I feel the most relaxed. In the past, I tried in-person yoga classes and walked away feeling like it was not for me and decided home yoga was more my thing.
But this year, I made a decision to step outside my comfort zone because I needed to get out of the house mainly and just be surrounded by friends and good people overall.
And let me tell you, this yoga class did not disappoint, Queen.
From the moment I walked in, the space felt warm, calming, and somewhere I needed to be. It was like I was in a space made just for me. The environment, the energy, the stillness went crazzzzy … it all felt just right. I’ll definitely be going back every week Queen.
2. What was I expecting before I walked into class?
Honestly, I expected awkwardness. I remembered feeling uncomfortable in past classes, being around others while trying to zone into myself.
But this time? Completely different as everyone was tuned into their selves.
I felt so tuned into my body that it felt like I was the only one in the room. The instructor was AMAZING, and the guidance made it easy to relax and let go. I did not expect how mentally refreshing this yoga class would be.
3. How did my body feel during the class?
My body felt sooooo good, especially after working out earlier. You could not tell me nothing because I did it! I was challenged in the best way possible. I didn’t feel pushed or rushed and everything felt just right.
My body needed every single stretch as I realized how much tension I had in some places of my body that felt good to release.Â
4. What surprised me the most about the experience?
How present I felt.
Sometimes being fully in the moment is exactly what you need, even when you don’t know you need it. It felt like I stepped into a different world. No phone. No extra noise. Just me, deep breaths, and my purpose.
And that purpose was ME, MYSELF, AND I.
5. Was it hard to slow down?
Yes, and that’s exactly why I needed this yoga class.
Lately, slowing down hasn’t been easy for me. I almost talked myself out of going. But once I put it on my calendar, I knew I had to honor that commitment to myself because that is the type of person I am.
I’m so glad I listened to my inner voice and pushed through. Showing up was the hardest part but at the end it was the most rewarding.
6. How did I feel mentally after the class?
That mental state, babyyyyy… felt unmatched.
It felt like my mind finally caught up with my body. The drive home was so peaceful, and I just felt calm overall. I felt proud of myself like I truly accomplished something just for me.
7. Would I recommend yoga as a form of self-care?
ABSOLUTELY.
Yoga is one of the best ways to begin your self-care journey. You don’t have to be flexible. You don’t have to be perfect. You just have to show up.
That inner voice telling you to try something different and to reconnect with yourself Queen this might be it. Yoga could be the change you’ve been looking for.
SHEspiration Reflection ðŸ’
Starting my year with yoga reminded me that self-care doesn’t have to be complicated. Sometimes, it’s about choosing yourself, slowing down, and allowing your body and mind to reset.
And that alone? That’s powerful Queen.
